Hot buttery popcorn, icy cold choc tops and Maltesers…love a night at the movies, but what is even better?  A movie night at home in your own theatre, you can even keep your slippers on!

We have some tips on setting up your home theatre to be the envy of all your friends, to show the latest released movies, perhaps the big sporting game or even showcasing the latest family happy snaps.

Pre-wiring vs. after handover
While setting up a home theatre is often seen as a luxury for our clients, meaning they opt to leave it until after they move in, there are some very affordable pre-wiring options available that won’t break the budget.  The Push Control system is a popular option due to its scalability to allow for future addition of devices and requirements such as lighting, and is attractive due to its overall genuine affordability.  A Push Control set up can control the home theatre configuration, all televisions including both free-to-air and pay TV (Foxtel) viewing, DVD players and gaming consoles all from the convenience of a tablet, and eliminating the need to maintain a multitude of remote controls!

Whether you decide to include pre-wiring or not, we recommend to definitely seek advice from audio visual home theatre specialists.  A professionally installed system with hidden wiring and smartly mounted TV or projector systems can give you hours of entertainment as well as potentially increasing the re-sale value of your home.

Sound proofing
Noise sources such as voices, television sets/home theatre and musical instruments, generate sound in the air in one room and this sound can pass through the wall and into adjacent rooms - known as airborne noise (source:  Soundstop plasterboard, manufactured using recycled materials technology and 100% liner paper, assists in controlling the transfer of airborne noise, prefect for isolating the sound generated in theatres to reduce the impact to nearby bedrooms and living areas.  A further option for noise control is Soundscreen insulation which can be used within walls or floors (in two storey homes) and has the potential to absorb as much as 75% of the sound power to effectively reduce noise to acceptable levels. (   You may choose to leave the doorway clear for your home theatre, in keeping with the open plan feel of the home, or for the real cinema experience you can include a solid door system so you can really turn up the volume!  Check out the specialist solid door selection by Corinthian, perfect for reducing sound transfer, at Spectra during your browse appointment or Sneak Peak Evening.

Window coverings
Hard core home theatres maintain total light block out to create the ultimate cinematic experience.  But with the right window coverings you can have the best of both worlds, a light filled room to be used for other activities as well as darkened room for the Saturday night at the movies.  Plantation shutters are a popular choice with their ability to comprehensively block out light but also be opened wide to maximise daylight.  Another clever option is the double roller blind which involves a combination of a sheer blind and a block out blind catering for both day and night activities.  Romantic sheers are a nice addition to other blockout solutions to create a luxurious old world style to your theatre room.  Window covering partner, Victory Blinds, are part of the Spectra showroom experience and can offer expert advice on what product to choose for specific situations such as home theatres.

For a luxurious feel to you home theatre space decorate with a moodier tone such as wall colour a few shades deeper than the rest of your home.  Choose artwork from some great Hollywood classics or your favourite family movie.  Comfort is essential in this dedicated room, look for a couch with space to stretch out, somewhere to put your feet up or maybe go the full mile and include individual recliner chairs!  Some cosy cuddle and throw rugs like these chocolate faux fur throws from Bed Bath N’ Table are a must.  We love the special ‘starry night’ featured in the Atlantique on display at Berwick Waters, Clyde North adding that special touch to a great room.  For those true movie buffs, what about a mini bar and popcorn machine for a gold class experience!!

What is at Spectra?
If you are considering including a pre-wired or automated system in your home it is a good idea to flag this with your sales consultant before your Spectra appointment.  Depending on your level of audio visual integration, a separate electrical appointment may be suggested to make sure adequate time is dedicated to incorporate all your needs. Other home theatre inclusions that can be discussed at Spectra are; sound proofing, doors, window covering and lighting.

If you’ve always dreamed of having a home theatre, there are lots of options for all budgets and lifestyles.  And, with a bit of planning you can add to it as you go and enjoy Saturday night at the movies in your own home every weekend!
