Leaving work early? Set the perfect temperature of your home on your way out the door! Be welcomed home with the lights on, the blinds shut and unlock the front door with your smartphone! Set the perfect ambiance for your next dinner party with audio visual control from your smart device!
All of this is Home Automation, it’s the new buzz word about town. Sounds impressive, but what does it actually mean? Put simply, you have the ability to control virtually any device, system or appliance all from the one smart tool, from within your home or remotely. It might sound like something out of a James Bond movie, but it really is an achievable luxury for today’s new homes.
For the ‘Blockheads’ amongst us, you may remember the judges being ‘wowed’ by The Block Glasshouse contestants Max and Carsten’s use of a high-tech remote that closed automated blinds, turned on the TV and dimmed the lights in their living and dining space.
Here is our #HomeAutomation Cheat Sheet to get you up to speed and help decide whether to add this feature to your home wish list.

What automation systems are available for Carlisle clients?
Carlisle Homes’ clients have several options to consider when looking to automate aspects of their home, C Bus, Push Control and Honeywell systems. At the top end of the scale is the C Bus system which is an individually designed and customised entire automation solution. Your C Bus system is very scalable, meaning that you can opt to include an unlimited amount of devices and functions, or simply a series of lighting or a projector.
Clients with the main priority of automating their audio visual and entertainment systems favour the Push Control system which is scalable to allow for future addition of devices and requirements such as lighting, and is attractive due to its overall genuine affordability. A Push Control set up can control the home theatre configuration, all televisions including both free-to-air and pay TV (Foxtel) viewing, DVD players and gaming consoles all from the convenience of a tablet, and eliminating the need to maintain a multitude of remote controls!
Honeywell Tuxedo Control is a new option focussed on controlling the security of the home but also has the capability to integrate heating and cooling systems, door locks, window coverings and lighting layouts. The Honeywell system is accessed and configured from a 7” touchscreen within the home and remotely via a dedicated app which is a handy feature when on holidays!

When do I start to discuss Home Automation options?
If you think you might like to incorporate Home Automation into your new Carlisle home, even if you have limited knowledge of how it works and what is involved, you should start the discussion at the beginning of your journey – with your sales consultant. Your sales consultant will obtain some background information on your plans and ideas and alert the electrical design team. Based on this first exploration of ideas, the electrical design team at Spectra will assess whether to schedule an additional technical appointment.
A visit to a Spectra Sneak Peak evening is the perfect opportunity to start the information gathering for your automation options. You can touch and feel some of the options and start to identify which system will suit your needs. Your Spectra Browse Appointment, scheduled once your deposit has been confirmed, provides further opportunity to explore your options and further finetune your automation wish list.
During your dedicated electrical design and selection appointment, your consultant will discuss your lifestyle needs, wish list and budget to structure the right automation system to suit now and into the future.
New Carlisle Homes’ clients make the most of the opportunity to browse the showroom and speak to the design team at the Spectra Sneak Peak Evening.
What can be done after handover?
Some elements of Home Automation can be added after construction but it can become a costly exercise, particularly with two storey homes. As per most made-to-order projects, such as new cars, homes and computer systems, the practical approach is to include upgrade items from the outset, or at least make provision to enable addition at a later stage. If budget is a concern, a good option is to choose a scalable system that can begin with just a few devices or functions automated but with the capability to easily extend the configuration at a later date, without costing the earth.

How can Home Automation and Smart Wiring improve re-sale opportunities?
Keeping in mind how your lifestyle might evolve in the future is a smart approach when planning your new home. Without question, any features included in a new home that can enhance the residents’ lifestyle and appeal to the mainstream audience can become a valuable re-sale feature and enable the property to stand out in the real estate market.
Home Automation really is only limited by your imagination and of course your budget! Your electrical design team at Spectra will work with you to plan a smart system to suit your lifestyle and automation requirements and fit within your home budget. Start your Home Automation research and meet our interior designers now by registering for our next Spectra Sneak Peak Evening.
