Big Builders securing the future
Carlisle Homes has partnered with HIA by joining the organisation’s Big Builder program.
The HIA Big Builder program provides the opportunity for builders to sponsor HIA apprentices in an effort to train the next generation of quality tradespeople.
Building quality homes in and around Melbourne since 2004, Carlisle Homes recognises the need for a team of experienced and qualified tradespeople to maintain a high standard of home construction.
Carlisle Homes director John Doulgeridis says the relationship between HIA apprentices and Carlisle Homes contractors will enable the builder to continue to grow a strong trade base.
“Our partnership with HIA apprentices provides an opportunity to create a team of tradespeople who not only understand the quality expected by our customers, but deliver to our exacting standards,” he says.
Mr Doulgeridis says that central to the program is educating apprentices to respect their customers and to develop a team of professional builders of the future who deliver high-quality outcomes.
“We want to develop the skills of a group of tradespeople who not only build quality homes, but who have respect for their fellow tradespeople and for our customers,” Mr Doulgeridis says.
“Apprentices are the future of our industry, and our objective is to ensure we build on our base of quality, loyal tradespeople by supporting the development of our HIA apprentices. This will help to ensure we have a strong team of tradespeople who know the Carlisle product and understand the standard of quality expected in each home,” he says.
Carlisle Homes commenced its Big Builder program with three apprentices and is committed to sponsoring a team of 10 apprentices as it develops.
While trade availability is good at the moment, experience has shown that this won’t last, highlighting the need to train apprentices. Competition from other industries, an ageing workforce and the reluctance by industry to commence apprentices could see a dramatic decline in the number of qualified trades.
Victorian HIA Apprentice manager Chris Fortune says he is delighted that Carlisle Homes has joined with the organisation to sponsor apprentices.
“A commitment from the bigger builders is vital to the future of our industry,” he says.
